In our passage today, we find Jesus on his way to Jerusalem. His face has been set to go to Jerusalem since Luke 9:51 which states, “And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.” Luke 13:22 says, “And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.” This is the third time it is mention that Jesus is on his was to Jerusalem. He came to the earth to glorify God and provide healing for humanity. The only way to provide a cure for our sin-sick leprous souls was to become a curse for us by dying on the tree. He would be the substitutionary sacrifice who would give his life as a ransom for many and be the cure for humanity’s sin-sickness. While on His way to Jerusalem, Jesus passes along between Samaria and Galilee. He did not bypass this area where many Jews would consider the Samaritans half-breeds and unclean. Jesus passes through this area and a miracle happens. Let dive into this passage in Luke 17:11-19 and take up the thought, “The Miracle of Mercy.” From this passage, we will discuss 1) The Misery of the Diagnosis 2) Misery Loves Company 3) Misery Ends in God’s Mercy.
