The doctrine of salvation that defines the "common salvation" extends beyond the salvation of the soul. Salvation is a gift that positionally includes the salvation of the soul, practically the progressive salvation of the life (salvation from a wasted life) through practical sanctification, and ultimately the salvation of the body through glorification. Because of ignorance of these three aspects of the "common salvation" many people are confused when they do not understand Scriptural context addressing these three aspects of the "common salvation."
Contending for the purity of the gift of salvation provided solely by the grace of God and received solely through the decision of faith in the finished redemption of the death, burial, resurrection, and glorification of the Lord Jesus Christ has been an historical constant from the beginning of time. This is certainly manifested early in the book of Genesis in the tension between Cain with Abel. Abel had no tension with Cain except to confront him about his inappropriate sacrifice of the work of his own hands. Abel contended for "the faith." Cain compromised "the faith." A person's offerings manifest the substance of that person's faith! The expression of a person's worship manifests his understanding and appreciation of grace.
