The mouth is the gateway of expression of most thoughts, and the risk of grievous sin increases with the number of words spoken. All thoughts are judged as significantly as words and deeds, but thoughts become heinous when they are carelessly released. Words spoken reveal the content of the heart of the one speaking and are as deceitful, dangerous and wicked as the heart from which they spring. Furthermore, there is a great flood of thoughts always ready to burst forth from the mouth which must be restrained in wisdom. In an abundance of words transgression does not cease; lawbreaking continues as long as the fountain of unguarded words continues, and the measuring of words prior to speech is the mark of prudence.
Much good can be accomplished with words if a man is prudent and lingers over his words before speaking. Our words ought to be well measured as they escape our lips suitable to the communication at hand. And, our words ought to be pleasing to God with discipline of godliness for all will give an account for the words spoken in this life.
