As Peter finishes his epistle, he gives us a brief summary. He wrote to exhort and testify to the true grace of God in which you stand. He wrote so that we understood what it really means to be standing in the grace of God, that we are not focused on the things of this world, but on the world to come. He wrote so that we could be encouraged to continue to stand in that grace when it seems hard. When persecution comes. When people slander. When these things happen, it is easy to not see it as the grace of God, but to see it as others successfully rebelling against a powerless god. But Peter wrote to make sure that the church understands that God sent the difficulties that Christians have not out of spite, but out of love. The persecution that we suffer in this present age is to prepare us for eternal life. It is to prove and improve the most precious of gifts, faith.
