How are we to understand this? As a starting place we should clearly state what we do not mean. We are not talking about reclaiming America for Christian people. It must be for Christ or not at all. What is at issue here is the sovereignty of God over all of creation. Dutch theologian and political leader Abraham Kuyper put it this way: "There is not a square inch in all the domain of our human existence over which Christ—who is Sovereign over all—does not cry: Mine!" Ours is a nation birthed in freedom—the principal one being religious freedom. And that freedom is under enormous duress in out day. What is needed to defend it?
