Putting Off The Old Man and Putting On The New Sermon June 23, 2013 Ephesians 4:17-24
If we are new creations in Christ, we must live like it! We must no longer live as the Gentiles do (17-19) In the futility of their minds (17) Darkened in their understanding (18a) Alienated from the life of God (18b) Because of their ignorance (18c) Due to the hardness of their heart (18d) Having become callous (19a) Having given themselves up to sensuality (19b) (Greedy to practice every kind of impurity) We must live as we have learned Christ (20-24) If we have heard Him and been taught in Him (21ab) (Just as the truth is in Jesus) To put off our old self (21c) Which belongs to our former manner of life Which is corrupt through deceitful desires To be renewed in the spirit of our minds (23) To put on the new self (24) Created after the likeness of God (24a) In true righteousness and holiness (24b) Applications: Putting off the old man—flee youthful lusts Being renewed in the spirit of our minds—know the Word of God Putting on the new man—created in righteousness and holiness Romans 12:1-2 ¶ I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
