Last week we heard the question raised by Jesus' own disciples in Luke 8:25 - "Who then is this?" This question also raises the question as to the character and role of those who were in the boat, and all those who follow this man Jesus - if he is the Christ, the Son of the living God, then "Who are we?" We will take two weeks to cover Luke's answer to those questions in 9:1-36. This week, in Luke 9:1-17 we see Jesus is the One who gives power and authority to preach and heal and to bring liberty to the captives. He is also the very bread of life, who gives not only bread, but his very life, that those who follow him might be nourished and have life eternal. We who follow him, are those who have been both called and sent; to depend upon God for our every need and to joyfully participate in the wonderful work of proclaiming the good news of his kingdom.
