Qualities of a Sound Church - Message 10 - Qualified Despite Our Past. We learned last Sunday that in Titus 3:1-2 Paul told Titus to remind the disciples at Crete that they needed to be doing seven things in their daily lives as followers of Christ. Believers are to be subject to rulers and authorities, obey, be ready for every good work, speak evil of no one, be peaceable, be gentle, and show humility to all men. In verse 3 he tells Titus why believers need to be reminded to do these things. He lists seven reasons. He reminds us that we were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. We need to be reminded because so often, practically speaking, we forget that before we were saved, we were lost! We appear to be shocked at times at the behavior of the lost, and yet we were once just as they are now. As we study this verse we will see the depths of our depravity, and we will see that the three most important words in this verse are “we were once.” If we have repented of our sin and trusted Christ to save us, then we were once, but we are not any longer! |
