The Second Epistle of Peter June 27, 2010 Sermon Lesson 8 2 Peter 2:4-10a
PRESERVATION OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND PUNISHMENT OF THE UNRIGHTEOUS: HISTORICAL EXAMPLES THAT HOLD TRUTH FOR THE FUTURE
We must live in a godly manner!
If God faithfully rewarded righteousness and punished sin in the Old Testament….
He did not spare the angels who sinned (4)
He did not spare the ancient world in the flood (5) But He did spare Noah (5)
He did not spare Sodom and Gomorrah (6-8) But He did rescue righteous Lot (7-8) Greatly distressed by the wicked Tormenting his soul over their lawless deeds
Then He will certainly… (9-10a)
Rescue the godly from trial (9a)
Keep the unrighteous under punishment (9b)
Those lusting with defiling passions (10a)
Those despising authority (10a)
Applications
We can trust a God who is both just and merciful! We want to be those who repent and believe. Know that God is sovereign over all—and that He will reward the righteous and the wicked.
