The Means of Blessing (Ruth 2:12) Introduction: How does God provide? How does he provide for these two widows, and for us now?
Exposition 1. God graciously provides through a culture with Biblical foundations (v2) See Deut 24:19-22, Lev 19:9-10.
For a comparison for heathen cultures, see Dan 4:27, 'Therefore, O king, let my advice be acceptable to you; break off your sins by being righteous, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your prosperity.'
2. God graciously provides through his providence (v. 3-4, 19-20) God orchestrates the events which bring Ruth to the field of Boaz.
3. God graciously provides through his people (v. 8-11) And Boaz' prayers were answered. Ruth was rewarded and provided for in God's kindness, through Boaz himself.
'In you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed' (Gen 28:14, see Gen 12:3, Acts 3:25, 2Cor 8:9).
Application 1. We should use God's appointed means of provision.
2. We should realize that you and I may be God's means of providing for other people.
Conclusion: I am the Lord. John 15:12-13, 'This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.'
