In Psalm 5 we find the Psalmist dealing with national problems, the specific occasion being the wickedness of men who were poisoning national and personal discourse through lies. He calls them: evil, wicked, arrogant, liars, bloodthirsty, rebellious, and deceitful.
Surely there have been occasions in your nation’s recent history where we have seen this sort of behavior. The danger is that we seek external or mechanistic solutions, and by so doing we fall into the trap set by those who oppose God.
Instead of looking to external solutions, the Psalmist turns to God, and rather than touting his own goodness of righteousness as the standard to be followed, he rests his case and his assurance upon the very character of God.
