Luke's account in Acts traces the New Covenant Church's inauguration and growth as a crucial aspect of scriptural fulfillment. The Scripture promised that Messiah would stand as the rallying point for the ingathering of sons and daughters drawn from every tribe, tongue, and nation as well as Israel and Judah. The creational renewal marking the Messianic kingdom would have its focal point in a renewed humanity, and the presence and power of the Spirit would accomplish this work of renewal. The Creator Spirit is the Spirit of re-creation. Thus Luke's account turned at the outset to the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, who thereafter is shown to be the power behind the gospel's progress and fruitfulness. Jesus' Spirit was indeed leading His Church, but His oversight and direction extended beyond the Church's doctrine and governance to the orchestration of its growth and the disseminatino of its message. The Spirit had taken the gospel beyond Judea and Samaria into Syria and Asia Minor; now it was time for it to move across the Aegean Sea into Macedonia.
