Walking in the Light of God 1 John 1:5-2:2 Doug Hayes, July 5, 2009
I. God is Light & In Him is no darkness at all In 1 Jn. 1:5-2:11 we see this same theme of the division of light (1:5, 7; 2:8, 9, 10) and darkness (1:5, 6; 2:8, 9, 11)
II. Walking in the Light vs. Walking in Darkness He is also holy (2:20; 3:3), righteous (2:1; 29; 3:7) and just (1:9).
1 John 1:6-2:1 3 False Claims of those in Darkness3 Characteristics of Waking in the Light 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. 2:1 …if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous
