The church of the Lord Jesus Christ has always existed in a world which is fallen and, from time to time, it has existed in a world which was (or is) positively antagonistic to the point of persecution. The "Killing Time" in Scotland (1680 – 88) was one of those times. Covenanter Presbyterians were literally driven underground due to the severity of the persecution. Church life had been disrupted in the most extreme way. While our own recent experiences pale in comparison, the fact is that the life of the church and this congregation has been impacted. During such times, it is imperative that the Lord's people not lose focus on what is important and what the broader story is. Isaiah's inspired prophesy in today's text gives to us a glimpse of the Lord's purpose and the ultimate end of all things. If we take a moment and consider the glorious purpose of the Lord being unfolded before our eyes, it puts the current troubles in perspective and calls us to hope and faithfulness. This is the consistent testimony of Scripture in the Old Testament as well as the New. The call to go to the mountain of the Lord is a call to learn His ways, to trust in Him, to true hope, and most importantly, to trust in the promised and given Savior, Jesus Christ. – Pastor Schlegel
