Christians sin. Sometimes we sin terribly. Sometimes our sin seems to separate us from God. Sometimes we fear that our sin means that we were never really saved and are surely outside of God's grace.
What can Christians do when they sin?
First, sin teaches us that we cannot look to ourselves—our promises, or performance—for hope, not when we are living faithfully and especially not when we fall. God's word makes this wonderful promise: "It is not by their own merits or strength but by God's undeserved mercy that" God's saints "neither forfeit faith and grace totally nor remain in their downfalls to the end and are lost. With respect to themselves this not only easily could happen, but also undoubtedly would happen; but with respect to God it cannot possibly happen."
Second, sin is an opportunity to restart your walk with the Lord. Repentance is hard. It is humbling. But through it sinful Christians begin a new, revitalized relationship with God in Christ.
