Melchizedek is one of the most enigmatic figures in the Bible. Although he is only mentioned twice in the Old Testament (Ge 14 & Psalm 110), scholars have spent thousands of hours researching him. Yet most do not have clear-cut answers about him. The New Testament writer of Hebrews devoted nearly 20% of his letter to an examination of Jesus in light of what David calls the "order of Melchizedek". This is someone worthy of investigating. In this first session on Melchizedek we focus exclusively on what the Old Testament says about him and the implications of his relationship to Abram and the import of his being both a royal priest of the Most High God and the king in light of the Aaronic priesthood. But I warn you, this is one of the most complex topics in Biblical studies and our conclusions may be hard for some to accept.
