In this second part of Jesus' farewell address to His disciples, He presents Himself under the metaphor of a vine, the true vine. This portion is to assure the disciples that they, as branches in the vine, are to be fruitful due to their position and the father's work of disciple unto holiness. True Christians are those who remain (abide or continue) in the vine. This is the condition of their fruitfulness, which, in turn, glorifies God. All professing Christians need to examine themselves in light of this passage.
