Pride has been around along time. One could even argue it was the 'mother' of all sins for it was pride that sparked the fall from heaven. We as fallen creatures are not immune to pride and must be vigilant to combat it in our lives as it seeks to manifest itself in every Christian. We see in Matthew 18 the disciples asking our Saviour which one of them would be greatest in heaven. The answer was both a rebuke and instruction.
We are to become as a child, a young learner, one who has no other motive than seeking the Truth. We must be in constant submission to the Scriptures, the only place we will ever find Truth thus allowing the Holy Spirit to conform us into a soul that is teachable.
Jesus further instructs that we are to promote this humble conformity among us all. He also warns that any attribute causing a learner to stumble, such as pride, should be actively avoided and eliminated. This is the heart of maintaining a proper Christian relationship. This is how the Church is held together, by lovingly instructing all with scripture. Scripture brings loving wisdom and council, pride brings schism and rebuke. Are you looking for prideful behavior in your life?
