"Last week in my sermon I made the statement that it is a hard time to be a woman right now in our culture. Today I want to say that it's also a hard time to be a pastor in our culture. It used to be in America that pastors were generally honored by virtue of the office they held in the church, but that now seems like a long time ago. Today pastors are almost universally looked at with suspicion and often even ridicule. And honestly as pastors we've brought a lot of this on ourselves, but for every scandalous pastor who falls to immorality or greed, there are many more faithful men still preaching the truth and serving their people, and those pastors need all the support they can get from the people they shepherd, while acknowledging that all of us, whether pastor or people, are in continual need of the grace found in the gospel. So the big takeaway from our passage this morning is that the church should care for its pastors in a way that honors God and is obedient to Scripture."
