Peter is giving us some commands here, and not just because he can. It is of the greatest purpose that we follow these commands. He starts by telling us to have self control. He says “be sober” but that doesn't just apply to alcohol; it goes to anything that will cloud our minds. Anything satan can do to scare us, to put our minds racing instead of thinking. But that is why we are to be on watch or vigilant. When the alarm goes off the body is to spring into action not stop and think. We are the body Jesus is the head where the thinking is happening. Our reaction is to be strong and rigid in our beliefs or as Peter said “resist stedfast in the faith”. Our troubles are not unique to us only, all true Christians are going through the same things. We can take courage from this, because God is watching out for all of us.
