Jesus Prays For the Apostles Part 1: The Father's Distinguishing Grace
Outline of the High Priestly Prayer The Son prays for His glorification (1-5) The Son prays for His disciples (6-19) The Son prays for future believers (20-26) Because the Father has given us to the Son, the Son will be glorified in us! Through the Father's distinguishing grace (6) The Father gave to the Son a people out of the world (6b) The Son revealed the Father to this people out of the world (6a) Through our right response to the Father's distinguishing grace (6b-8) Keeping the Father's word (6b) Knowing that all the Father has given to the Son is from the Father (7) Hearing the words of truth from the Son (8a) Receiving the words that the Son had given them (8b) Knowing in truth that the Son came from the Father (8c) Believing that the Father sent the Son (8d) Through the Son's intercession for us (9-10) Not for the world, but for those given to the Son (9) Reciprocal ownership of God's people: Father and Son (10) Applications Election: Need to humble ourselves before God, acknowledging His sovereignty! Action: Need to obey the Father, hear the Son, and receive/believe the Gospel! Prayer: Need to prioritize praying for one another (vs. the world)!!
