Points: I. The Command of the Parting Blessing II. The Communication of the Parting Blessing III. The Consequence of the Parting Blessing
This message concludes the series of sermons on the basic elements of worship. Over the course of this series, we will work our way through the liturgy that we ordinarily follow during public worship.
Today's message looks at what we call the benediction or parting blessing. This is the second of a two-part message. Last week we looked at the idea or concept of blessing, as well as the Biblical practice of bestowing blessings. This week, we look at the Aaronic Blessing as it is found in the last verses of Numbers 6.
In these last verses of Numbers 6 we find what is really the archetype of the future blessings we find in the rest of the Scriptures. In the parting blessing or benediction, God is guaranteeing his presence, grace, and care to be with His people. In effect, it is a call to faith... to trust and rely upon the LORD and his promises to us.
