Ian Migala (7/3/2013)
from Minneapolis, Minnesota
“ Summary, Part 3 (final) ”
3: Parents, if you would prepare your children to become respectful, responsible (if not also Godly) adults, begin corrective discipline early in life; 4: Parents, if you would maintain a good conscience today and spare yourself painful remorse in the future, conscientiously follow the Lord’s example in the discipline of your children.

“ Summary, Part 2 ”
c) God chastens His children so that they will repent of their sin. REVELATION 3:19. Walking in the Lord’s ways is pleasurable. The goal of Biblical discipline is to turn one’s heart. JEREMIAH 31:18: The Godly heart yearns for the chastening that will bring it back to obedience. d) God chastens His children so that they will be happy. JOB 5:17-18: Biblical chastening leads to happiness. e) God chastens His children so that they will be holy and righteous. HEBREWS 12:10-11: Biblical chastening comes from a Biblical father forging a Biblical child. f) God chastens His children so that they may learn of His persevering covenant faithfulness. PSALM 89:32-34: Biblical chastening supports Biblical ends. g) God chastens His children so that they will live forever and not die eternally. 1 CORINTHIANS 11:32: if the Christian walk seems more stringent and less profitable than that of the world, remember where both are headed: the Christian will be welcomed into Heaven, while the world will be cast into fire. CONCLUDING THOUGHTS: 1: Parents, stand firmly on the authority of the Word of God against the politically correct spirit of our age that abominates corrective discipline; 2: Parents, your perception of God’s discipline of you may profoundly impact your discipline of your children;

“ Summary, Part 1 ”
Previously discussed: I: GOD’S CREATION OF MAN SETS THE FRAMEWORK FOR PARENTAL DISCIPLINE, II: GOD’S DISCIPLINE OF HIS OWN SON PROVIDES A PERFECT PATTERN FOR PARENTAL DISCIPLINE. III: GOD PROVIDES PARENTS THE PATTERN FOR CHILD DISCILINE IN HIS WORD; A: GOD IS THE PARENTS’ MODEL FOR THE FORMATIVE DISCIPLINE OF THEIR CHILDREN. Today, we continue with B: GOD IS THE PARENTS’ MODEL FOR THE CORRECTIVE DISCIPLINE OF THEIR CHILDREN. Again, there are two types of Biblical parental discipline: formative and corrective. PSALM 89:32-34 is commentary on 2 SAMUEL 7:14: a loving father chastens his son. 1. Divine purposes in corrective discipline: God’s heart revealed in the reasons for the chastening of His children: a) God chastens his children to prove that He is their heavenly father and that they are His children. HEBREWS 12:7-8: a father who does not discipline is son is not that boy’s father. If you’re not receiving discipline from God, then you are not a child of God. DEUTERONOMY 8:5. b) God chastens His children to prove His love for and delight in them. PROVERBS 3:11-12. Our society gets the very straightforward PROVERBS 13:24 backwards.
