Driving home this understanding, John says in chapter twenty's end his purpose for writing his gospel, " . . .these were written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name."
Showing compassion for people's needs as well as demonstrating His power and authority over all creation (and therefore His right to teach and be taken seriously) was also His purpose for the miracles He demonstrated.
