Christ or Pharisee? Matthew 9:8-13 A person can glorify God and still not be saved. The multitudes glorified God, yet they did not receive forgiveness of sins.A person can marvel at Christ, but he may fail to believe that Christ is truly the Son of Man. A person can believe that Jesus Christ was only a man who was given the power of God while on earth, but this person will never be saved as long as he denies that Jesus is the Son of God John 3:16; Matthew 10:33.We See Matthew the Tax collector the sinner who needed a Savior. Matthew's conversion shows that Jesus saves anyone who will truly follow Him:⇒ the hated⇒ the bitter⇒ the non-religious⇒ the unjust⇒ the dissatisfied⇒ the lonely⇒ the traitor⇒ the thief ⇒ the immoral⇒ the one .Jesus went where the sinners were. He did not avoid or shy away from them. He sought them out.Sinners felt comfortable coming to Him. They did not shy away nor feel unwelcomed.Jesus had meals with sinners, immoral people whom society and religionists rejected and avoided.Jesus and sinners were close friends. Look at the scene here: there was a large feast and a party of immoral characters, and Jesus was right in the midst of them. Of course, the purpose of the feast was for Jesus to bear witness. This is important: we are to be out in the world witnessing to sinful men, but we are not to be of the world. The self-disciplined and religious are sometimes the most judgmental and censorious. The religionists felt they were better and more acceptable to God because they were more moral and disciplined than those who had sinned. They failed to see that all men are sinners and stand in need of the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
