He was known of everyone in the town, and famous in reputation because of what he had done in the surrounding towns. The place is packed, and the carpenters boy has come in and is speaking to them. Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah, and though this boy grew up there and lived perfectly among them. These people grew up with this carpenters son, and the custom was that Jesus the Nazarine would be a carpenter as well. So the people questioned who was he to be there, and what was his message. The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me- This is clear Messianic language that is undeniable. He was claiming that God the Holy Spirit was upon Him and that God the Hly spirit had anointed Him for a special service. He has read from Isaiah 61:1-2a The people crowded the synagogue, and they knew Jesus. These people rejected Jesus' claim to be the anointed one of David, they were offended that Jesus came to these religious people and said that He had come to save the poor, brokenhearted, blind. They realized that Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah and that He was calling them to repentance. They knew that He was saying that the, though chosen by God and though religious. These people needed Jesus to save them because they were blind, slaves, and captive. This was the gospel call, and mans hatred, but this was also God showing His rejection of them, for all day long His hand is stretched out to His own town, community, and nation and they are obstinate and rebellious.

Great Sermon! Very good Bro. Justin. Some interesting points on the synagogues that I'd not heard before on their number across the land and the customs and activities within. Thank you.
