True gospel preaching is about making disciples, or those who are apprentices in the faith. We learn by loyally following, serving and defending the cause of Christ. Are we seeking to acquaint ourselves with every aspect of Christ's life and example?
A true disciple will display Christian resilience. We read that 'the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles' against the apostles in Iconium. Rather than being deterred, the apostles remained in the city, preaching to build up the new converts. Eventually they left, but only when their lives were at risk, and they later return, refusing to be discouraged in their ministry.
The apostles stir up the same spiritual steadfastness in their new disciples. They had a love for souls.
We need resilience in our souls, steadfastness in our affections and constancy in our love to the Lord. Are we confirmed and persuaded so we 'through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God'? We consider the spur to resilience - that eternal heavenly reward to come.
