In our passage, Eph. 4:11-16, we learn that God has given gifts to His Church in the form of gifted men to lead, teach and shepherd His people. These gifted and called men of God, however, are not be the end, but the means to our expected end, which is maturity in Christ.
A.W. Tozer warns, 'How tragic that we in this dark day have had our seeking done for us by our teachers. Everything is made to center upon the initial act of 'accepting' Christ (a term, incidentally, which is not found in the Bible) and we are not expected thereafter to crave any further revelation of God to our souls. We have been snared in the coils of a spurious logic which insists that if we have found Him we need not more seek Him.'
Seek Him we must. Growth is expected. Love for Christ internally drives the saint to know Him more. Growing in the biblical knowledge of who He is has a transforming effect on who we become. You become like the object of your greatest affection.
