For many life is like a rat race, running hither and yon plus never ending. What we need in life are periods of still time in order to rest. God gave to Israel a gift-- the gift of Sabbath. At creation, He established the pattern: 6 days to work, 1 day rest. And during the wilderness journey, even before the Law was given, God had engrained this work-rest cycle in their lifestyle. God put His stamp of approval on resting one day a week. It is God's antidote for workaholism for it tests our faith as to whether we can trust God to meet our daily needs. One day a week to 'catch our breath, to recharge our spiritual batteries." Sabbath is to be time for rejoicing in God's blessings, for reflecting on the God's greatness, His works, and His Word. And it is a time for recalibration, for tuning our hearts and minds to the standard of truth. Still times, periods of rest are essential for our spiritual well-being and growth. So go ahead, give yourself permission to take some Still time! |
