The Second Epistle of Peter June 6, 2010 Sermon Lesson 5 2 Peter 1:16-18
CHRIST'S DIVINE MAJESTY ATTESTED BY APOSTOLIC EYEWITNESSES
In the face of modern scoffers, we must make known the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
• Relying upon historical evidence: the Transfiguration (16-18)
o The Transfiguration gives us apostolic eyewitness (16-18)
They saw the Son's majesty (16b-17a)
They heard the Father's voice (17b-18)
o The Transfiguration points toward His coming again (16-18)
• Relying upon Holy Scripture: the Old Testament prophets (19-21) (next week)
Applications:
We must make known the power and coming of our Savior
We must prepare to defend the doctrine of the Second Coming to scoffers, who think it is based upon myths.
We need to contemplate the honor and glory that God bestowed upon Jesus at the Transfiguration—the foretaste of what He will do at the Second Coming!
