In this passage, Jesus is speaking to people who were the physical descendents of Abraham, yet He says, 'Ye are of your father the devil.'
Though they are religious and have a correct biological lineage, they are spiritually depraved and want to do the the works of the devil. They actually want to kill Jesus Christ, the Lord of Life. Jesus tells them that they cannot hear the truth because they are children of the devil.
Pastor Linehan explains that here are only two kinds of people in this world: children of God and children of the devil.
This passage reminds us of the reality of the devil. Let us beware of the devil and his devices. Let us not take lightly the depraved condition of fallen man. And let us remember the necessity of belief in Christ.
