Two weeks ago, in our study of Eph. 4:7-10, we focused on the Spirit's gifts to individuals in the Church. That is, that each individual believer has been bestowed with a unique and special gifting for the purpose of contributing to the needs of the whole. Unity composed in diversity--not uniformity. James D.G. Dunn captured this when he wrote:
"Paul's vision of the body of Christ is of a unity which consists in diversity, that is, a unity which is not denied by diversity, but which would be denied by uniformity, a unity which depends on its diversity functioning as such -- in a word, the unity of a body, the body of Christ." This is stated well and in summary fashion captures what I attempted to teach last week, at least in part.
Tonight, we will explore our beloved Savior's gifts to the Church and their manifold purpose taken from Eph. 4:11-16. I hope you are all able to attend and that this lesson in God's sufficient, authoritative Word would be a blessing to you.
