Heresies: Montanus and Montanism
Montanism is a heresy that cropped up in the mid to late second century made popular by Montanus. Condemned as a heretic by most churches around AD170 Montanus claimed to be the prophetic heir of Agabus and the daughters of Phillip, and that the new Jerusalem would be established in Syria. Besides many of these type of fantastic claims, Montanus also espoused theology that was rooted in the elevation of prophesy, ascetic living, and that supported ongoing new revelation.
