Continuing the trumpet judgments, right at the middle point of the tribulation period, and they are affecting the earth and the people, but the worst is yet to happen. Don't spiritualize these judgments – they are real and literal just like it says.
Vs1: We believe this is Jesus, because there is no normal angel described anywhere in scripture with this kind of appearance. Rainbows are associated with God's mercy towards mankind. His face, in Rev Chapter 1, there is a description of Christ that fits this description to a T. All of this is in relation to the nation of Israel. The feet as a pillar of fire refer to judgment. So rainbow (mercy) and fire (judgment) is the reason for this coming. Vs2: this little book is not the title deed to the earth. Right foot on sea, left foot on earth. He's taking control over the earth. Man has had if for 6,000 years (6 = man's number) and made a big mess of it. The 7,000th year is the Lord's (7=complete, the Lord's). Vs3: lion roaring: Jesus is going to get everyone's attention, without a doubt. Thunder in scripture refers to God and his judgments. Vs4: this is the only thing in the entire book of revelation that John was told not to reveal, not to write. There is a clue that these 7 thunders uttered is that more judgment is coming to the earth that is so bad and so horrible that John is told not to write it.
