After giving a straightforward command to show hospitality and to exercise the gifts that God has given to each believer for the glory of God, Peter turns back to suffering for righteousness sake. Before he said we were to rejoice when our faith is proven through suffering for following Christ, he now points out that we shouldn't think it strange that God would send us through trials to prove our faith. When our faith is proven, we should rejoice because it means we will be rejoicing when Christ's glory is revealed when He comes to judge the living and the dead. Even though someone who reproaches us for the name of Christ is sinning, it gives us an opportunity to glorify God. When we suffer for doing good in the sight of God, it should remind us of the seriousness of salvation. For if God appoints those who are righteous to suffer in this life, how much more will the unrighteous suffer in the final judgment?
