Dear ones, disciples of Jesus Christ and those who despise Jesus Christ will alike have their lives, their families, and their world shaken to the foundation by the earthquakes of life (whether by cancer or some other serious illness, whether by rejection of family or friends, whether by loss of a job that leads to poverty, whether by the death of a child or some other loved one, whether by persecution for the truth of Jesus Christ). The difference between the Christian and the Non-Christian is not the earthquakes that shake our lives and families, but rather the knowledge and assurance that the Christian has that the God who loves us with an everlasting love and has sent His Only Begotten Son to redeem us has sent those earthquakes to lead us to Christ and to teach us that Jesus Christ is more firm than the earth that shakes beneath them, but also to warn the Non-Christian that if the earthquakes of life bring fear into their lives, there is coming a Day of Judgment that will make the greatest earthquakes man has ever experienced in history look like a mere dream by comparison.
Let us consider how God used a violent earthquake to bring a jailer to Christ: (1) God Sends an Earthquake that Brings the Jailer to Faith in Christ (Acts 16:26-34); (2) The Care of Paul and Silas for the Little Flock in Philippi (Acts 16:35-40).
