The church must be the salt of the earth and the light of the world in all things that pertain to God. In the gospel first, but also in matters of the care for the weak and helpless because these flow from the nature of the gospel. In the Roman Empire, parents simply abandoned babies they did not want to the streets. The Christians of the time gathered these babies to care for them and raise them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord. They had to. God declares his love and help for widows and orphans. God used the church to save those babies alive. We also know that this was one of the many testimonies by which, God used the church to convict the world of sin and to save His elect.
