Idolatry is when we imagine God to be different than what the Scriptures tell us about Him. Every entrance into idolatry begins with our own pleasure and pride. It is very contagious and if we allow ourselves to be yoked up with those who have formed idolatrous opinions of God based upon their own desires and self-centered opinions, we will soon become like them. It is very much like the sin of fornication, and God commands us to escape the same way: Flee! Immediately, without tarrying; or we will surely be caught up in it ourselves.
