Dear children, young people, and adults, there are unfathomable blessings that the Lord freely and graciously pours out upon you who turn from your sin and disobedience to His holy commandments and turn in faith to embrace the forgiveness and the righteousness of Jesus Christ preached to you in the gospel. You may have heard it preached so many times that you know it well. That gospel is alone able to rescue you from God’s just judgment and to set you free from your bondage to the world, the flesh, and the devil (Acts 4:12). However, that gospel that is rejected and will not be believed will also aggravate God’s righteous condemnation upon you if you simply listen to it, toy with it, procrastinate to receive it, and yet resist it. It is a much more serious sin deserving of a greater judgment from God to have heard many times the gospel and yet to pretend you believe (and to show no lasting evidence of faith in your life) than to have never heard the gospel at all.
O dear ones, store not up God’s righteous judgment against you by resisting the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ today. This is life or death—life to all who believe, and death to all who refuse. This is what the Holy Spirit would leave with you today in what Paul preached to the Jews in this final section of the Acts of the Apostles. The main points are the following: (1) Covenant Blessings Enjoyed by Faith (Acts 28:17-24); (2) Covenant Judgment Falls for Unbelief (Acts 28:25-31).
