“ Summary, Part 4 (final) ”
4) Arrive early enough so that you can adequately and quietly ready your heart to meet the Lord so as to not be a distraction to other worshipers. We must awake into the Sabbath; it does not begin when the service begins. UPON ENTERING THE BUILDING AND BEFORE THE SERVICE [47:10]: A focused, edifying, and smooth service requires adequate time to deliver the food and tithes we bring, leaving children in the nursery, using the facilities, greeting the brethren and visitors, settling into our pews and praying once more before the service begins. We know that coming to work in a hurry is a bad start; how much more so to come to church the same way? The point of all of this is for us to realize that our time belongs to God. As the Westminster Confession of Faith says about the sanctification of the Lord’s Day, our worldly affairs should not be an impediment to our heavenly God on His Day.

“ Summary, Part 3 ”
VI. IF WE WOULD PROPERLY PREPARE FOR CORPORATE WORSHIP ON THE LORD’S DAY, WE MUST READY OURSELVES THROUGHOUT THE PREVIOUS WEEK AS WELL AS ON SUNDAY MORNING. [35:55] PSALM 87:2 – God loves corporate worship even more than private worship. Corporate worship on the Lord’s Day here is a dress rehearsal for our worship in glory. Our personal and family worship is preparation for our worship each Lord’s Day. HOW SHOULD YOU PREPARE AT ENTER GOD’S PRESENCE ON THE SABBATH? [39:22] AT HOME ON SATURDAY NIGHT 1) Give special attention to mental preparation (commitment to the service, letting the kids know what Sunday service will bring and addressing proper behavior), physical preparation (sufficient time, cars ready, clothes set out, food made, kids’ Sunday supplies laid out), and spiritual preparation (prayer for the pastor, the brethren, and the service; ask God to come down). 2) Retire early enough to get sufficient rest. ON SUNDAY MORNING: 1) Rise early enough not to be rushed. 2) Spend time alone with God preparing your heart. 3) Pray with your family before leaving home.

“ Summary, Part 2 ”
3) Do you know the holy joy that belongs to they who serve such a God in worship? CONCLUDING PRINCIPLE [21:35]: We are properly prepared to worship our great God only as we approach Him with a spirit of reverence and gladness. V. IF WE WOULD PROPERLY PREPARE FOR CORPORATE WORSHIP ON THE LORD’S DAY, WE MUST COME WITH A REVERENT DEMEANOR BEFORE THE LORD. [22:20] ECCLESIASTES 5:1 – Solomon urges us to mind what we have come to do in worship; proper worship contains a proper demeanor. If we prepare as we do for a job interview, how much more should we prepare for the presence of God? We don’t think of half-hearted worship as folly, but it is, and Solomon says so at the end of this passage. Matthew Henry reminds us that fools are wicked men. Today, this casual way worship has found its way into the churches. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER [33:10]: 1) Do you consciously, with premeditation, come here to offer God acceptable worship? Do we give Him the choicest cut, or do we leave Him our crumbs: the stuff left over after we’ve filled ourselves? 2) Do you prepare your ears as well as your heart at the door before you enter to worship the Lord?

“ Summary, Part 1 ”
HEBREWS 12:18-29 - Fellowship is not just congregation with believers, but before God, who is a devouring fire. We continue from last week’s message with Part IV: IF WE WOULD PROPERLY PREPARE FOR CORPORATE WORSHIP ON THE LORD’S DAY, WE MUST RIGHTLY RESPOND TO THE AWESOME GREATNESS OF THE GOD WE COME TO WORSHIP. [starting at 8:00 of the audio] PSALM 95:1-7 – Here, we see the object of our worship (vv. 1-2). The whole passage gives us several reasons for our worship: God is the true and living God, the Savior, the Exalted One, the Almighty Creators, and our Keeper. In the New Testament, we learn that we are His sheep and adopted sons. We miss the point if we treat these truths as abstractions and not precious realities. Note that the passage is also in the first person plural: it speaks of public worship, not private. Also note the psalmist’s urgent tone, and the character of his plea: reverent worship. Cf. PSALM 2:11, especially the apparent conflict in tone, which is not conflict at all for the believer. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER [19:22]: 1) Do you ponder the infinite greatness of God as you come before Him to worship? 2) Do you approach this God with a reverence befitting His exalted greatness and your puny lowliness?
