Restoration is at the very core of the Biblical message. Restoration is the Biblical principle of earthly justice for man's courts. It is the principle of eternal justice for man's salvation. And it is the principle of final justice for all the creation.
If our system of justice was Biblical it would operate on the principle of restitution/restoration, not incarceration. And among the great benefits, we would have no prisons.
Who is the victim of crime, the person who was robbed, or beaten up, or the family members of the person who was murdered, or is the victim of crime the State? Who should receive restitution from the offender, the victim or the State? Under our present anti-Biblical system, if there are fines, the State gets them, not the victims. If the criminal goes to prison, the taxpayers, including the victims, support him.
Contrast the justice system we have with the system of justice found in the Bible. Biblical civil government forces criminals to pay restitution to their victims in non-capital crimes. (In capital crimes they pay restitution to God.)
This sermon deals with Biblical restorational justice as it applies to human society, salvation and eschatology.
