In Matthew 7, we remember that the difference between doers of The Word versus hearers only was compared to the difference between a man building his house on the rock versus a man building his house upon the sand. In these verses in James, the same two kinds of men are being contrasted again, this time, by the way in which they make use of the Word of God. We use this test to help us not fall prey to our own delusions. Many have deceived themselves who they did not fight the good fight of faith who, instead, ran their testimony aground, made shipwreck of their faith, became a castaway, and never finished the race. We take heed of these things which were written for our edification as we peer into the mirror of God's Word and take note of what we see.
