As we come to the seventh and final sermon expounding the High Priestly Prayer of our Savior, it is good to be reminded that His prayer, beyond the immediately apparent passion and care He has for His disciples and for those who would respond in repentance and faith to their message, it is also a profoundly revelatory prayer. Over the previous six sermons, we have been exposed to glimpses of the relationship between God the Father and God the Son. We have received the comfort of the promised abiding presence of the Son even as He will shortly die, rise again, and ascend to the right hand of His Father. The glorious truth of the unity of the godhead as well as the unity of those who belong to the Father and given to the Son, not merely with each other, but with the Savior, has been revealed to us and yet we marvel at such a sublime mystery. Now at the end, He speaks again of glory, unity, knowledge, and love. All of these find their significance and meaning in Jesus Christ. There is no faith with Him; there is no salvation without Him; there is no forgiveness of sins without Him; there is no eternal life without Him, and there is no church without Him. Truly, "…in Him all things consist." (Col. 1:17) – Pastor Schlegel
