Preached in July 1964 at old Bryant Park Baptist Church in Charlotte NC. The church was located near the WBT-Channel 3 television studios, and not far from the Charlotte airport. This building is gone; the pastor and people moved to another facility later.
This was a powerful word of truth from the Lord's faithful evangelist. The message of the Cross is foolishness to many — so is the message of Hell. The two go together.
If you will listen carefully, you'll see that HELL says three things:
I. It Reveals a HOLY God, so holy that He WILL punish sin! II. It Gives a Revelation of What Man Really is. 1. Man has a Satanic spirit — "I will" is his declaration of his self interest. 2. Man manifests Satanic fury against God. 3. Man especially revolts against the gospel of pure and sovereign grace. 4. Man has a Satanic destiny — "the devil and his angels" will be in Hell. III. Hell Says the Cross of my Lord is GLORIOUS. Praise the Lord! Oh, the glory of Calvary to my soul!
The outline of the message of the Gospel stresses these same points — GOD, MAN & THE WAY OF SALVATION.
Several Carolina grace preachers came to hear Brother Barnard that night at Bryant Park in Charlotte — he mentions two (and I can hear their voices), Ed Miller and J. O. Dunn.
