As we were reminded this past Lord's Day, sometimes a crisis reveals very vividly deficient attitudes. Christlike humanity pursues justice, is known for its mercy, and is characterized by humility. As all of us pray and as our deacons and pastors convene this week to seek to understand what happened thirteen years ago, my prayer is that my heart and all of our spirits will reflect these Christlike attitudes. No human loyalty nor long-held traditions should hinder us from pursuing justice for the criminal, showing mercy to the victim, and walking humbly before our community which is so confused and angered by the reports.
