Exposition: God's love for wife of harlotry 1. Hosea's call (1:2)
2. Hosea's children w/Gomer like children of Israel (1:3-9) a. Jezreel: valley where God judged idolatry (1:3-5, cf 2Ki 9-10, 15:29) b. Lo-Ruhamah: God will no longer have mercy on Israel, only Judah (1:6-7, cf 2Ki 19:32ff, Is 37) c. Lo-Ammi: God will no longer call Israel "my people" (1:8-9, cf Ex 6:7)
2. God's jealousy in action toward His unfaithful people (2:2-23) Therefore, God will make Israel... a. miserable by giving her frustration in her sin (2:6-8) b. ashamed by taking her rich clothing, parties & jewels (2:9-13) c. return by wooing her til she forgets her lovers (2:14-23)
3. Hosea's future w/Gomer like God's future w/Israel (3:1-5) He redeems her from her shame & slavery, & brings her home again (3:5)
4. Frustration (4-8:10): the hedged up way 5. Punishment (8:11-10): the "taking away" in judgment 6. Hope (11-14): let the wayward be humbled & return to the Lord
