Tonight we examine what is called "The First Main Point of Doctrine" found in the Canons of Dort. If we will remember what we have already learned about the history of and the context for this great international meeting of Protestant churches, then we will more easily understand why the first "canon" or teaching which we need to study is the "U" of TULIP, Unconditional Election. 1. We must begin with some definitions: a. Predestination (Ex. 9:16, John 10:25-28, Ephesians 1:4,5,11)
b. Election (Acts 13:48, John 15:16, 2Thes. 2:13)
c. Reprobation (Ex. 4:21, John 12:39-40, Romans 9:13 &18)
2. Election as explained by the Canons in its "First Main Point of Doctrine."
3. Election as explained by the Apostle Paul in Romans 9.
