As we begin Chapter 2 of Ephesians, we need to remember that the chapter divisions are not part of Paul's original epistle. His theological instruction in chapter 2 builds off of what he has already said in chapter 1. Specifically, we will learn what it means that God has exercised the same power toward us that He displayed in the resurrection and exaltation of Christ. How were we "dead"? In what way were we "raised"? And how, even as we live on earth, are we seated in Christ at God's right hand in heaven? Our time will be spent being occupied with the first of these questions tomorrow night, exploring what it means when Paul says we were dead in trespasses and sins.
