In preaching through the book of Acts we regularly encounter miraculous deeds of such scope and power that all who saw them were in awe at what was being done.
When we consider the situation honestly, we have questions. Are we to expect miracles like the miracles we find in the book of Acts? Some churches say yes, God is still doing signs and wonders in exactly the same way. Others say no, God doesn't do miracles like that any more.
But as people of the Word of God, we don't want to base our understanding upon our experience until we have placed our experience before the scriptures and allowed the Word of God to explain our experience.
In our experience we do not see miracles 'like' the ones described in Acts, though most can recall times when God has answered prayer in extraordinary ways.
As we submit ourselves to scripture, we see that God doesn't do miracles for the sake of miracles - these things serve a purpose, and to that end, we ought not to expect the same signs that were given to the apostles. But we should pray freely that God would work in both ordinary and extraordinary ways to make his power known.
