As a result of being assailed on every side and their major cities devastated from the air the Germans eventually surrendered on 7th May 1945. Europe had been saved from the tyranny and cruelty and brutality of Hitler and his men! The victory in Europe came when Hitler the destroyer had himself been destroyed. In the final analysis the source of Victory in Europe was the power and grace of God. The Psalmist had it perfectly right when he said, (Psalm 124: “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…when men rose up against us…then they had swallowed us up quick. Our soul is escaped…our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth.” Those words could be written over the deliverance and the victory in WW2 – the destroyer was destroyed and deliverance was granted to a people in great danger! That statement has an even greater significance and has a far greater relevance for us tonight. When I thought of the theme of “the destroyer being destroyed.” My mind turned to Hebrews 2:14, 15 This is an amazing passage oof scripture… for it speaks of deliverance from the power and the dominion of the greatest destroyer of all – the devil himself!
